A micromixer for the studying of high-speed chemical reactions is presented. The mixer comprises a circular vortex chamber with 16 tangential inlets for injecting the liquids to be mixed at velocities high enough to induce a swirling flow field. In this paper a design optimisation study is presented indicating the influence of various geometrical variations on mixing performance together with first experimental data on flow visualization by a fluorescent dye.
