Abstract

Panniculitis is classified by the biopsy: mostly lobular or mostly septal and with or without vasculitis. The commonest form is erythema nodosum, mostly seen on the lower legs and often associated with a known infectious agent trigger such as streptococcus or a system inflammatory disease such as sarcoidosis or inflammatory bowel disease. Other conditions such as neutrophilic dermatoses and necrotizing vasculitis may mimic panniculitis.
