Abstract

Typhoid fever is an infectious disease of the digestive system caused by the bacterium Salmonella typhi. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of using antibiotics in typhoid fever patients hospitalized at RSAU dr. Siswanto Lanud Adi Soemarmo in 2022. The study used a retrospective method with a sample of 52 patients. The type of antibiotic used was a combination of the antibiotics thiamphenicol and ceftriaxone injection, tiamphenicol and cefotaxime injection, cefixime and ceftriaxone injection, cefixime and cefotaxime injection, cefixime and cefoperazone injection. The effectiveness of therapy is judged by the magnitude of the decrease in temperature and length of stay. Typhoid fever patients hospitalized were dominated by 27 female patients (51.9%). Most of the patients aged 18-45 years 40 patients (76.9%). Clinical characteristics based on leukocyte levels were dominated by normal leukocyte patients in 42 patients (80.8%), while clinical characteristics based on the widal test test were positive in 52 patients (100%). The results showed that the most commonly used antibiotic was the combination of thiamphenicol and ceftriaxone injection in 33 patients (63.5%). The shortest length of stay in patients with combination therapy with cefixime and ceftriaxone injection (2.15 days), was tested using One-way Anova (p=0.024<0.05).
