Abstract

This section deals with the code of ethics for sociological practice in detail. There are five possible functions of codes of ethics of professional associations. First, a code can be an instrument of professional socialization. Second, a code can be a moral anchor or an enabling document. Third, a code can be a source of public evaluation and a way to enhance a profession's reputation and public trust. Fourth, a code can be a support system for professionals. Finally, a code can be a deterrent to unethical behavior.
