Abstract

The quality characters of 477 Wheat landraces from Yangtze River valley were evaluated by analysis of variance, correlation, and principle component in order to discover helpful traits and provide helpful information for the genetic improvement of wheat. The results showed that Wheat landraces from the Yangtze River valley was rich in middle-strength-gluten wheat, and had some high-strength-gluten and low-strength- gluten wheat. Wheat landraces of protein content up to high-strength-gluten, middle-strength-gluten, low-strength- gluten wheat index was 14.14%, 77.85%, 8.01%, respectively. Wheat landraces of wet gluten content up to high-strength-gluten, middle-strength-gluten, low-strength- gluten wheat index was 0.21%, 99.58%, 0.21%, respectively. Wheat landraces of zeleny up to high-strength-gluten, middle-strength-gluten, low-strength- gluten wheat index was 10.97%, 88.82%, 0.21%, respectively. The results of correlation analysis indicated that correlation between starch content and protein content, wet gluten content, zeleny was very significant. Correlation between protein content and wet gluten content was significant. This study provides a scientific basis for high quality wheat breeding, high-quality wheat production and using of the variety. © 2012 Springer-Verlag GmbH.
