Abstract

The Statutory Accident Insurance Association for the Trade and Logistics Industries (BGHW) systematically evaluated the fatal occupational accidents in the period from 2012 to mid-2019. Essentially, the 315 fatal occupational accidents that occurred in this period can be divided into 6 different focal points: road traffic accidents, fall accidents, accidents during construction, assembly and maintenance work, accidents caused by being hit, run over or crushed by vehicles and construction machinery, accidents involving industrial trucks and accidents during the loading and unloading of vehicles. The combined data led to additional knowledge on fatal occupational accidents and this article summarizes the results of these evaluations. The knowledge about fatal accidents in trade and goods logistics can thus be used for the (further) development of operational measures to prevent such accidents at work. In addition, the knowledge will be incorporated into the preventive action of the BGHW.
