The legacy of Cajal in Mexico

Abstract

The projection of the Cajal's Histologic School in Mexico is studied in this work. In first place, is analized the attention that generate in the Mexican scientists the rebirth of the Spanish science, particularly the works of the Cajal's School. It also studies the role that played in his spreading Tomás Gutiérrez Perrín, a Spanish histologist settled down in Mexico, disciple of Cajal and professor of Histology in the National School of Medicine. Finally, the contribution of the exiled republicans is valued, in which are included several disciples of Cajal, like Isaac Costero and Dionisio Nieto. They resumed their histopathologic and neuropsychiatric researches in Mexico and gave continuity in this country to the prestigious Cajal's School.
