Abstract

Computer networks are very important because it has various advantages. Software Defined Network (SDN) is a type of network that uses a controller for a centralized control over the network. Apart from all the advantages SDN has, it is prone to a large number of cyber-attacks. There are many kinds of cyber-attacks and the most common among them is the Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. Cyber-attacks affect the performance of the network. Due to such attacks, legitimate users are unable to communicate with the servers. Providing security to the network is a big challenge. A detection and defense against DDOS attack is very important. In this project, we detect early the Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack by using SNORT IDS and propose an effective and simple solution. Our proposed system provides automatic intrusion detection and prevention against DDoS attack.
