Abstract

The demand for breast augmentation procedures has risen steadily over the last decade. The concept of augmenting the breasts using injectable fillers is appealing. Such a procedure can produce satisfactory volume enhancement without the need for general anesthesia, implantation of a prosthesis, or incisional surgery. The ideal filler for breast augmentation would be biocompatible, inert, long-lasting, plentiful, inexpensive, soft, nonmigratory, and would not interfere with the sensitivity and specificity of breast imaging modalities. The author describes the use of hyaluronic acid as a temporary filler for breast augmentation.
