Abstract

This paper describes the advantages and disadvantages of the available lighting control systems. There are two basic methods of controlling light output from a luminaire: on/off switching of the light sources and variable lighting output by dimming or regulation. The application of these two types of lighting controls in different lighting conditions is discussed. An example of how the components of different lighting control technology can be combined to meet the control needs in various areas of a building is given in this paper. Finally, examples of the savings that can accrue from lighting control systems in different conditions such as new installations, retrofits, and rented office spaces were presented.
