The microstructure evolution during the sintering of CdO and SnO//2 powder compacts was studied with vapor transport enhanced in reducing atmospheres containing hydrogen. CdO and SnO//2 were chosen for study because of the high vapor pressures which could be generated at relatively low temperatures thus ensuring the dominance of vapor transport over other mass transport processes.
