The extensive literature on the lungworms of the white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) in North America is reviewed. The chapter is divided by disease and covers dictyocauliasis, parelaphostrongylosis, protostrongylosis and varestrongylosis. The biology of the meningeal worm (Parelaphostrongylus tenuis) and the muscle worm (P. andersoni) is reviewed thoroughly and their roles as disease agents in deer and other animals are outlined.
