Land characteristics and suitability for development of garlic in East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province

Abstract

Garlic is a strategic commodity, so that in 2021 government want to self sufficiency. In order to that goal, it is needed to find a suitable location for garlic development in Indonesia. The aim of this research to get information about land characteristic and garlic development potential in East Lombok. Land suitability analysis is done by matching the land characteristic and garlic grow requirement. The main requirement for garlic are elevation and temperature so that garlic can grow well at the upland area. The upland characteristic East Lombok Regency is dominated with Andosol Vitrik, Gleik, and Eutrik. It has soil texture and drainage that is suitable garlic. The evaluation result of land suitability showed that there are 7,477.23 hectare area that suitable for garlic. The biggest challege in garlic development is providing seeds, productivity rate which is lower than import rate and marketing of crops.
