Abstract

It has been recognised that obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can accompany core respiratory diseases or manifest severely by itself in respiratory critical care settings. Lots of patients who need invasive mechanical ventilation in respiratory critical care have OSA related physiological derangements like obesity, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and diabetes. Clinicians should get prepared to manage sensitive respiratory dynamics of OSA patients. This chapter summarizes the important highlights of induction, maintenance and weaning of invasive mechanical ventilation of OSA patients which still lays in the shadow of limited studies.
