The representation of the establishment, in The Pioneer daily newspaper in British India, of women leading the local struggle for independence demonstrates that hegemonic version of ‘conservative feminization’ discussed in previous chapters provides only a partial understanding from the transnational standpoint. In fact, the representation of indigenous women protesters in The Pioneer acts as an example of how the hegemonic version of ‘conservative feminization’ discussed earlier can be challenged — in this case by multifaceted female-led tactics in a role of ‘freedom fighters’.
