Abstract

In this final chapter, I return to Fraser’s (2010) three-dimensional theory of justice and, in light of the portraits presented in the book, reiterate the relevance of this framework to an understanding of literacy for social justice. The lens of literacy is an important means to understand in greater depth both the impact of policy on everyday lives and the complex means by which those lives are negotiated. This includes drawing attention to the discursive frames that shape everyday lives and the literacy practices that are a part of them, and disrupting these frames through research and practice which challenges how they are set. I argue that transformative approaches to literacy for social justice involve seeing it as integral to wider social change.
