Abstract

The management of mammographically directed excisional biopsy specimens presents the pathologist with a number of responsibilities. The goals of immediate specimen management are to identify the area of concern on the mammogram and not to compromise the final diagnosis by freezing a small lesion or taking tissue for special studies before a definitive diagnosis has been made.
