This chapter discusses pediatric tic disorders, including etiology, neuropsychological assessment, comorbidity with other psychiatric disorders, and evidence based interventions. Tics, characterized by rapid involuntary, repetitive motor movements, or vocalizations, were first identified by neurologist Giles de la Tourette when in 1885 he published case study reports based on a small number of patients receiving services in a Paris hospital. The disorder came to be known as Tourette's or Tourette syndrome. Initially viewed as quite rare, medical professionals slowly came to see the behaviors as a constellation of symptoms with neurobehavioral underpinnings.
