Abstract

Instruments for quickly measuring and mapping ocean color variations have been developed. The water color spectrometer (WCS) and the widerange image spectrophotometer (WISP) utilize some entirely new concepts. The WCS produces a continuous record of the spectral distribution of light energy coming from the ocean in only one spatial element, while the WISP is designed to measure the color simultaneously over many spatial elements. Examples of WCS data are shown in unreduced and reduced form of various water colors.
