Abstract

In this chapter the author discusses dreams and dream interpretation. The author divides the topics up into 2 sections: The Mesopatmian evidence and that found in the Hebrew bible. Throughout the author adopts A. L. Oppenheim's typology and distinguish 'message' dreams, which a god or important figure appears in a dream and delivers an auditory missive to the dreamer, from 'symbolic' dreams, in which the dreamer witnesses enigmatic visual images that require an interpreter upon awakening.
