Abstract

The ultimate goal of this research is to create an intelligent editorial design system integrating knowledge from expert designers. In this research, a grid system of layout theories and data mining are used to clarify the relation between design elements and their mechanisms from real design products by expert designers. Subsequently, design logics are theorized and knowledge-base of the editorial design system is created. When using our system, even computer or design novices can effectively and effortlessly perform design works. Furthermore, the result of scientific systemization of layout design process can contribute to the efficient design knowledge management. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.
