Abstract

This chapter discusses the challenges faced by social work education in Poland. The subsequent stages of development of social work education are determined by historical events in Poland: the Second World War, the introduction of communist ideology in Poland and the fall of communism in 1989. The last 30 years in Poland have been a period of systemic transformation in various areas of life, including social life. As a consequence of social changes, we have observed transformations in the area of social assistance and the need to adapt the education process to the same. Initially, the preparation of social workers took place within the framework of other faculties, sociology or pedagogy, as one of the specialisations. Social work as an autonomous field of study was introduced in Poland in 2006.
