Abstract

Referring to previous studies in past decades, the nature of design has changed as a tool for social interaction with attached with affective concerns. Some design scholars proposed that the environment for designing (such as the working space and working schedule) should be changed accordingly. Some design scholars propose better ways to design a working schedule and facilities for the design process. However, there are still obstacles that hinder the creation of an effective environment for designing affective and pleasurable design. Some design scholars believe that social interactions among designers would be helpful to optimise their working performance. These interactions need an appropriate setting and are influenced by the physical working environment; environments that differ to the traditional working spaces which are oppressively symbolic of hierarchy and discipline. Traditional working spaces are giving way to more effective environments to facilitate collaborative and flexible design process for affective and pleasurable design outcomes. So, this is a study to investigate how can designers make the working space more effective. Some principles would be proposed to seniors for creating the appropriate environment which would allow time and space for the design team to de-stress, open their minds, and inspire each other.
