Abstract

Lessons learned about water supply in ancient civilizations that have survived and flourished in arid and semiarid lands, can place our current water challenges within an historical framework and provide starting points for new (or rediscovery of old) solutions today. The lessons from ancient civilizations that ultimately collapsed can also provide insights into strategies that are ultimately unsustainable.
