Abstract

Fractures of the skull can be divided into fractures of the vault or the base of the skull. Such fractures are quite common and are important to acknowledge because in 70% they herald intracranial pathology; open fractures or fractures through the sinuses predispose to intracranial infections, and they can be cosmetically disfiguring.
