Abstract

Business-IT-Alignment (BITA) is an essential task of modern information management, that has existed for as long as IT has been established in our companies. BITA describes the adjustment of business goals and needs with the capabilities and service offering of information technology-on a strategic, tactical and operational level. Its history starts in the early 60s of the twentieth century, although the focus in research and business has changed in the course of time. In a BITA-Gap-Model the authors show how the general approach of the already established Gap-Model of Customer Satisfaction can be adapted to the BITA's needs and what the methodologies are that companies apply in order to minimize potential gaps in the alignment between business and IT departments. Following this development of a new methodology, the CIO of VW Financial Services answers questions aiming for his everyday challenges and how he deals with the task to maximize IT benefit for the business departments. As a quintessence it can be stated that BITA requires methodological support on one hand and depicts a classical management objective on the other hand. (English) [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
