Cardiotoxicity is a late effect of pediatric cancer and its treatment that increases the risk of morbidity and mortality. This may result from a variety of antineoplastic therapies, including independent or combined effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Late cardiotoxicity following anthracycline therapy is mostly subclinical, often progressive, potentially severe, and sometimes fatal. Therefore risk-based surveillance is extremely important in caring for survivors. This chapter discusses the pathophysiology, risk factors, late effects, screening recommendations as well as ongoing research in the field of Onco-Cardiology.
