Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to discuss the relationship between the experience of minority stress and acceptance and the health outcomes of transgender and gender diverse (TGD) youth. We discuss the components of a minority stress model, the expansion of this model to include TGD identities, and the risk and protective fac- tors associated with support (or lack thereof) by parents, schools, peers, and medical and mental health providers. We also include strategies to enhance support and related protective factors with regard to each of these subgroups.
