Abstract

This paper presents an initiative to explore the potential of commercial electronics technologies, in particular augmented reality (AR), in the military domain. Although the ruggedization, reliability, and power consumption are challenges that prevent most of the hardware components from directly being used in operations, the consumer software components are confidently being used in the development process of operational military capabilities. The project has concluded that availability of advanced consumer electronics stimulates the development of new military concepts and supports rapid prototyping and software requirements elicitation.
