We first discuss the characteristics of vertebrate genome evolution. Special attentions were given to two-round genome duplications and conserved noncoding sequences. We then move to brief description of vertebrate genomes for major phylogenetic lineages; teleost fish, amphibian, and amniotes. Mammals, in which many species genomes were already sequenced, were discussed in more details.
