Abstract

This article aims to provide the state of the art of Intranet in Italian banking industry and its evolution since 2004. The research involves a panel of banks (which covers the 80% of the Italian banking industry in terms of employees) and is based on both longitudinal case studies and survey. Two evolution era have been identified and frameworks reported. Findings reveal that, although following different paths and approaches and often without a common vision, the banks are moving more and more towards networked management of core processes with levels of integration within a ‘single virtual working environment’: the workspace.
