Abstract

This chapter gives an overview of Asian developing countries to determine the main focus of this book. Today, the Asian region is one of the biggest contributors in terms of energy and GHG emissions, but socio-economic conditions are very different among the countries. They experience similar paths of rapid urbanization but with different timings. Asian developing countries need to combat at least three challenges, including climate change mitigation and adaptation on top of ongoing economic growth.
