Abstract

In view of the serious situation of depopulation of rural areas in Spain, known as ‘emptied Spain', has recently become a priority in the political agenda, the trajectory of Spanish public policies and institutional initiatives is analyzed, as well as their responsibility in the shaping and magnitude of the problem. Although the analysis is part of the national level, the systematized review of proposals to provide alternatives to the depopulation of rural areas could be applied to other areas beyond the national situation, establishing the minimum necessary and desirable guidelines in a repopulation policy based on documented experiences.
