Oxygen delivery (DO2) from the atmosphere into tissues is a complex process that includes ventilation, oxygen transport from the alveoli to the blood, hemoglobin’s (Hb’s) affinity for oxygen, the cardiac output (CO), the oxygen saturation in blood, and the distribution of tissue supply. Understanding this process finds practical application in critically ill patients’ treatment, as it allows identifying the problem and taking corrective action.
