The present study investigated the meanings expressed by the students about the culturally oriented classes of Physical Education in a municipal school in São Paulo. The data analyzed suggest thatthe proposal fulfills its premises and, in some cases, exceeds initial expectations when it is foundthat students are encouraged to deconstruct prejudiced discourses about corporal practices ortheir representatives, when put into circulation
