By implementing an IoT-based smart monitoring system, the aim is to facilitate and aid the process of analyzing different aspects of football players which are otherwise difficult to identify during practice sessions. The major applications designed in this system are force imparted on the ball by the player by using a 3-axis accelerometer, angular movements of the player during game time by using a gyroscope, stamina of the player and tackle detection system to indicate any type of foul committed on the player and the nature of the foul. This is done by implementing the system on the foot of a player and collecting real-time values based on the actions produced by the player. By doing this, we gather accurate numerical values and graphical models of the player, thus enabling the coaches and managers to take decisions for enhancing quality of players. Player comparison is one of the most vital aspects for a manager to determine which player fits into his tactics whether or not a particular player is suited to his style of play and philosophical approach, thus potentially increasing his team’s chances of winning trophies. A tackle detection system is also implemented to aid the referee in making just and fair decisions to mitigate any unethical actions such as diving, which dampen the quality of the beautiful game. This system helps the referee decide if a player has involved himself in a diving simulation or was genuinely fouled by the opponent. Also, based on the intensity of the foul, this system helps the referee decide whether the player should be given a warning (yellow card) or should be sent off (red card).
