Abstract

The UK has larger energy resources than any other member of the European Union and is self-sufficient in energy. Coal and gas are currently the country's largest sources of energy supply while nuclear accounts for some 10%. However, with the privatization of the electricity supply industry, including some of the nuclear reactors, a new competitive climate has been introduced. The nuclear operators responded to the challenge and last year nuclear accounted for over 28% of electricity supplied.
