Abstract

Leadership and governance have strong impact in the field of human resources for health. Poor leadership and governance lead to poor human resources for health practices, hampering the performance of the health facility and the quality of health service delivery. This chapter covers an overview of human resources for health management. It provides a snapshot of the adverse effects of poor management of human resources for health. The chapter highlights the importance of sound leadership and good governance in managing the health workforce in health facilities. It provides a real-life scenario to show daily challenges that health facility managers are likely to encounter and proposes practical solutions, as well as key steps to be taken when the managers encounter challenges of a similar nature.
