Cooperation Issue in BIM Application in China and Its Solution

Abstract

The application of BIM technology will change the development of Chinese building industry. However there is something limiting the effectiveness of BIM application. Considering the status quo of BIM software, the paper argues that cooperation issues among BIM software and project participants in BIM application are the main obstacles. In order to promote the application of BIM in China, the paper then proposed a solution: on the one hand is to establish BIM technical standards and applied standards to provide favorable external conditions; on the other hand is to build the developer-driven cooperation mechanism at project level to provide favorable internal conditions. The results show that cooperation mechanism can effectively operate only if the developer of project is in dominant position and the role of project participants, BIM applied processes, management system and incentives are clearly defined.
