Abstract

This chapter discusses the role of decision context within time critical decision support in medical triage Time critical environments pose a challenge in the development of decision support systems in regards to the provision of relevant and timely information Establishing context is used within a number of information technology fields as a means to improve the functionality of information systems Likewise establishing a decision context in time critical decision support could assist in the provision of time critical information to improve decision outcomes This research proposes identifying contextual elements of a task being undertaken as a means to establish rules which can influence decision support provided Through this it is intended that a decision support system can refine contextual guidelines on the task being undertaken to act as a safety measure and for the purpose of risk mitigation within a clinical health care setting
