Abstract

Energy management in buildings is strongly promoted in the current Energy Efficiency Directive (2012/27/EU). The main goal of the energy management introduction is an optimal energy use either for heating or cooling. This paper shows how the data from an advanced building energy data acquisition system, implemented at the Mechanical Engineering Faculty building in Sarajevo, can be used to determine the baseline energy consumption for heating. The key parameters are measured on hourly basis during the whole calendar year. Raw data collected from different sensors, in the form of the simple ASCII files, are processed in advanced MS Excel tool, specially designed for this purpose. This paper discusses the applicability of the linear regression models and demonstrates how to construct the daily regression curve based on available hourly measured data. After the regression curve is established, the relationship between energy consumption for heating and outside temperature is validated against measured values in the whole heating season. It is also demonstrated how the hourly measured data can be used to analyze the occupants behavior. The results are discussed and the further steps are proposed.
