Abstract

Society and the media have become increasingly concerned about suicidal behaviors in young people. This concern has led to a growing worldwide focus on its prevention and intervention. Young people who self-harm often present to hospitals via the emergency room (ER), and the consultation-liaison team is often called upon to provide appropriate psychiatric assessment and management. This chapter will discuss self-harm, suicide, and dangerousness in young people seen in a general hospital setting.
