Abstract

This chapter will explain how the industry, regulatory agencies, and the general public play roles in one process, Product Recall, which is considered as the last line of defense in food safety. Although a very small percentage of the food safety concerns are originated from the food industry, it is considered critical for the industry to gain public trust. Since the production quantities are relatively much higher compared to other food segments, any undesired consequences of the food safety issues may affect larger populations. Therefore, product recall plans with its different level of classifications creates a widely accepted and adapted defense plan when/if a qualified event occurs.
