Abstract

During the 20th century, unconditional growth and development in conjunction with environmental degradation stimulated a global commitment to landscape preservation. Protecting both the natural and the cultural environment has become a global issue, and it is reflected in many international treaties and declarations, such as UNESCO or RAMSAR.
