Abstract

This chapter describes major specification of the Dual-Frequency Precipitation Radar (DPR) onboard the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Mission’s core observatory, and the specific algorithm that is used to retrieve precipitation rate from its data. Emphasis is on the level 2 algorithm that retrieves instantaneous rainfall profiles. Major functions of the six modules that form the level 2 algorithm and special features in the dual-frequency algorithm are described.
