Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the Japanese education system, including some interesting and unique features of education practices—standardized testing and the importance of university entry examinations being examples. What is the teacher’s role in all of this? In an effort to reduce the risk of common problems among Japanese adolescents, such as delinquency, bullying, suicide, and school refusal, teachers, school counselors, social workers, and supervisors of club activities often form teams.
