Abstract

Having introduced a broad typology of horizontal collaboration projects and practical guidelines for its management in the previous chapter, again it is time to take a step from theory to practice and study some empirical evidence. Generally, empirical papers on horizontal collaboration either focus on survey results on the (perceived) opportunities of impediments, or discuss one or a few true cases in detail. We start with the survey papers and then continue with descriptions of collaborative projects found in academic literature. Then, we focus our attention to relevant European Union policies and projects, and we conclude this chapter with an overview of some recent commercial initiatives that foster collaboration in logistics.
