Abstract

This article examines an important question for the adequate comprehension of Rousseau's autobiographical project: what is involved in the process of getting to know and passing judgements on other people? Special attention is given to some examples of "observers of men" which can be found in Rousseau's works: the "Rousseau" character in the Dialogues, Émile, Saint-Preux and Wolmar.
