Abstract

A majority of enterprises across many industries store most of their sensitive information in relational databases. This confidential information includes data on supply chain, manufacturing, finance, customers, and personnel. A 2002 Computer Crime and Security Survey revealed that more than half of the enterprise databases in use have some kind of security breach every year. These security breaches can cost an enterprise nearly four billion dollars a year in losses, not to mention the loss of personal and confidential information, such as social security numbers and credit card numbers of millions of people.
