Abstract

(create) Focuses on spouse abuse, with a more limited discussion of the effects of traumatic experiences on other family members, especially children. The importance of the societal and cultural context of domestic violence is noted. Three areas of interest are addressed: 1) if exposure to torture detention increase the likelihood of domestic violence; 2) if the characteristics of domestic violence are different in families that have experiences sever trauma; and 3) if approaches to treatment and prevention of domestic violence should be different for families that have experienced trauma.
